ROCHESTER — Jamestown Community College was outscored by 12 in the first half and unable to recover down the stretch in an 86-70 NJCAA Region 3 Division II men's basketball loss to Monroe CC on Wednesday.

Kewan Platt led a quartet of Tribunes (10-3, 5-0) in double figures with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Noah West added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Mike Kelly Jr. had 13 points and Gilberto Cue had 10 points in the win.

The teams were tied at 16 with 13:03 left in the first half before Monroe CC went on a 12-2 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from Omari Brown and Kelly.

The Jayhawks (5-8, 0-5) cut the deficit to as few as three on Tavion King's layup with 4:23 left in the opening 20 minutes and kept it close on D.J. Branch's jumper to make it 35-30 with 3:24 left. The Tribunes then went on a 9-0 run to go up 14 before King's layup at the first-half buzzer.

"We had some bad turnovers and gave up some breakaways," Jamestown CC coach George Sisson said. "Three or four bad possessions in a row led to some easy baskets for Monroe."

Monroe CC's lead stayed around double digits throughout most of the second half.

"We were never able to make a run at them," Sisson said. "When you go to Monroe, that's a heck of a place to play. They have a real homecourt advantage and they are a talented basketball team."

Kenny Pitt led the Jayhawks with 15 points to go along with five rebounds while Keshaun Howard had 11 points and six rebounds. King chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

Monroe CC outrebounded Jamestown CC, 47-33, and held a 20-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

"They go 6-8, 6-7, 6-8 across the front line. With Williams (Overo) out … we gave up height all the way through the roster," Sisson said. "We battled. The guys competed really hard. We got hurt on the glass a little bit in the second half."

Jamestown CC returns to action Saturday against Lakeland CC at 3 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex. The Lakers are a Division II program from Region 12.
