ROCHESTER — The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team may have ended its season on Saturday with a 61-43 loss to Niagara County CC, but the Jayhawks left the campus of Monroe CC with plenty of recognition for their impressive 19-7 campaign.

Shortly before taking to the court against the Thunder Wolves, Emilee Sperry and Alexis Rodenbaugh both received First-Team All-Region 3 recognition, while head coach Travis Wells was named the region's Co-Coach of the Year along with Tim Parrinello of Monroe CC.

Sperry, a Panama native, finished her sophomore year averaging 15.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 35.4 percent from beyond the arc.

In her first campaign with the Jayhawks, Rodenbaugh was just behind Sperry in scoring with 14.7 points per contest, while the North East, Pa. native also added 7.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

"I'm very excited for them and it's unfortunate for our sophomores to be in this position and just come up a little short. The individual honors are nice, but I know they would have liked to finish it off the right way with the team,"said Jamestown CC athletic director Keith Martin. "Individually, it's a great honor and I'm proud of the kids and the program and where we're getting back to, and Coach Wells and (assistant coach Chris) Dole, they are doing a great job and we're back to where we used to be, which is exciting for the program."

Panama native Nicole Johnson and Frewsburg native Olivia Lynn both had strong freshmen campaigns, culminating in All-Region Third-Team recognition. Lynn finished her season averaging 13.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists while Johnson contributed 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest.

"(We have) an incredible group," said head coach Travis Wells, who just finished his third season at the helm of the Jayhawks. "I couldn't ask for a better group, and to have two on the first team is amazing. The two on the third team is just fantastic for the freshmen there. Coach of the Year, I don't know how that happened, but that's all due to the kids. They just gave so much this year and I couldn't have asked for a better group."
