Jamestown Community College women's basketball coach Travis Wells decided to test his 2-2-1 press to begin Thursday's NJCAA non-conference basketball game at the Physical Education Complex.

It was prep for the team's trip to New England this weekend.

Let's just say the Jayhawks aced the exam.

Behind 23 forced turnovers in the first half, Jamestown CC breezed to a 100-33 victory over Pitt-Titusville to raise their record to 4-0. Thirteen of the miscues came in the first quarter when they raced to a 25-5 lead.

Nicole Johnson scored eight points, Alexis Rodenbaugh had five, and Jesse Zenns and Olivia Lynn added four apiece to highlight the dominant first quarter. The margin grew to 52-10 at intermission and 74-19 after three periods.

"We came right off the bat with (the press)," Wells said. "I thought (Pitt-Titusville) had more guards than what they did. We wanted to get ready for the CC of Rhode Island (on Saturday), we had an opportunity to work on it and the kids executed it."

Johnson led five Jamestown CC players in double figures with 18 points, Lynn added 16, Zenns had 13, Katelyn Bennett had 11 and Taylor Phelps chipped in 10. All nine Jayhawks, who shot 43 of 87 from the floor, found the scoring column.

It's been quite a start to the season for Wells' crew.

"The sophomores have been steady and the new kids have come in and contributed," Wells said. "We don't have a lot of numbers (on the roster), but everybody has come in and contributed."

NOTES: Jamestown CC held a 48-32 rebounding edge. Zenns led the Jayhawks with nine boards, while Johnson, Lynn and Elizabeth Harrison had seven apiece. … Haley Hettenbaugh collected eight assists and Rodenbaugh had five. … Rodenbaugh also made six steals. … Amanda Fry had 11 points to lead Pitt-Titusville. … Jamestown CC travels to meet the CC of Rhode Island at 5 p.m. Saturday and then will take on third-ranked University of Connecticut-Avery Point at 1 p.m. Sunday.
