Nick Jones is a freshman member of the Jayhawk wrestling team. Jones attended high school at Dunkirk and represented the football and wrestling programs there. Among his achievements, he was a three-time Section VI state representative. Wrestler Kyle Snyder is his favorite athlete. Jones is a Physical Education Studies major and plans to work as a phys ed teacher and football/wrestling coach in the future. Eventually he hopes to find a job in scholastic administration.
Q. When you were younger, did you have a passion for another sport like you do for wrestling
A. Yes football, I was a pretty big football player but what made me change sports was that I like
relying on myself to win a game rather than a full team of guys.
Q: Who or what inspired you the most to get into wrestling?
A. My father was a 3 time state champion and I wanted to emulate that so that’s what
Q: What do you enjoy the most about wrestling?
A. Just the comradery on the team and the other guys on the team are good guys so I’m able
to find more fun in the sport.
Q: How do you usually prepare for your best performances?
A. No music at all, I kind of just go about my day and let everything fall into place.
Q: What are your goals for the future/ career?
A. I am currently going to school to be a phys ed teacher. The ultimate goal for me right
now though is to be an all american athlete and make Nationals.
Q. Do you have any inspirational advice that you can give to upcoming athletes?
A. Always stay committed find a balance between school and athletics and kind of just go
with the flow.
Q: What are your goals for the team this season?
A. I want so see more than half the guys on the team make Nationals.
