ROCHESTER, Minn. — "Not many people can say they finished their season with a win. It's nice to walk away with that."

That was the comment of Jamestown Community College volleyball coach Ashley Lund on Saturday night, hours after the Jayhawks posted a victory in their final match at the NJCAA Division III Women's Championship.

The 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Queensborough (N.Y.) left Jamestown CC with a 1-2 record for the weekend and a seventh-place finish.

"Honestly, we didn't play that great," Lund said. "I don't know if was because (of the two losses on Friday), but we didn't play our best. We played well enough to walk away with a win, which is great."

The victory improved the Jayhawks' record to 31-2 on the season.

SallyAnne Rudny led the way for Jamestown CC with two aces, 13 kills, nine digs, and one block; Sierra Wells had 24 assists, two kills, eight digs and one block; MacKenzie Marsh collected eight kills and seven digs; Kendyl Austin chipped in three aces, three kills and nine digs; and Alyssa McCarthy contributed four aces and seven digs.

"We didn't come out to a great start in the first game," Lund said. "We just needed to wake up, I guess. Once we got in it and started going, we pulled away at the end (to win the first game)."

The Jayhawks played better in the second and third games to end their season with a victory, which they celebrated at a team dinner last night.

"With a small team, you always tend to bond with them a little more,"Lund said. "You get to know their personalities a little more. This team, as does every team, has its own quirks and they were so much fun. They enjoyed each other and they just really got along."

The team was scheduled to fly home this afternoon.
