NORTH EAST, Pa. — Jamestown Community College improved to 6-0 overall on Thursday after sliding past Mercyhurst North East, 25-18, 19-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-11 in Western New York Athletic Conference volleyball action.

While the Jayhawks (6-0, 4-0) did not play the game their accustomed to in the second and third sets, momentum swung back in the team's direction in the final two frames.

"We were able to regroup and push on," head coach Ashley Lund said. "We won the first one not easily, but with a decent margin and then we come back and lose the next two. Once they started to get the feel for the game back they came out on a run. They came out in the fifth and wanted it which was nice."

Jamestown CC was able to rely on the play of Sierra Wells during the downtime, as the sophomore grabbed four aces, 44 assists, five kills, 19 digs and three blocks.

"She knows and understands where the ball needs to go for us to be effective,"Lund said. "She's very smart on the court."

Jenna Caskey fired three aces, 18 kills, nine digs and had one block in the win while Kendyl Austin had 18 kills, 16 digs and two blocks.

Megan Gominiak added seven kills, a dig and three blocks while Emma Wirsen had an ace and 10 digs.

The Jayhawks will enter POD play at Niagara County Community College on Saturday against North Country CC, SUNY Adirondack and Hudson Valley CC.
