JCC Stumbles in Hockey Home Opener

JAMESTOWN, NY - A crowd of over 1,000 screaming Jayhawk fans were treated to an action-packed game Friday night at Northwest Arena.

The final score of an 8-3 loss by Jamestown Community College (JCC) to SUNY Niagara wasn't indicitive to how close the game was on the ice.

After the Thunderwolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead, JCC battled back as Jed Hirliman netted the first-ever home ice goal for Jamestown to make it 3-1. The tally was assisted by Spencer Bell. That combo is Lakewood to Jamestown for the all-Southern Tier boxscore.

The Jayhawks faced a 5-3 deficit late in the third period when JCC had a breakaway that was fired just over the net or it could have been a 5-4 game.

Instead, it was Jamestown taking a five-minute penalty that saw Niagara score three unanswered goals to make it the 8-3 final.

Jamestown is back on the home ice on Friday at 7:00 PM when they host Alfred State for our alumni night.
