JAMESTOWN, NY - You couldn't have scripted a better start to a game or season for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) hockey season, winning 9-4 over Alfred State in a game that wasn't as close as the final score.
The Jayhawks opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the game, with Cooper Bergman swiping the puck from an Alfred forward before burying a shot in the back of the net to make it 1-0 Jamestown.
Less than four minutes later it was Bergman playing helper, with the assist to Noah Kellogg to make it 2-0 for the home team.
Before the first period was half over, JCC took a commanding 3-0 advantage, with another goal from Berman, this one assisted by Garret Greaves and Kyle Augustin.
That three-goal edge would carry into the second period, where Cole Mazzurco made it 4-0, Kellogg potted his second for a 5-0 lead, and Meyer Talbett scored before the game was half over, and it was 6-0 for the Jayhawks.
That score lasted into the 3rd period, where both teams continued the scorefest, with JCC collecting the five-goal win.
The Jayhawks return to the home ice of Northwest Arena on Saturday, September 27th, at 7:00 PM for their second game of the season.
