JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) hockey team kept Jayhawk Nation on the edge of their seats Saturday night, in a spectacular 7-6 win over Canisius College.
JCC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Noah Kellogg and Cooper Bergman; the duo was assisted by Garret Greaves and Christian Greaves, respectively.
After that, it appeared to be a long night at the office for the Jayhawks, allowing Canisius to score the next six goals and finding themselves in a 6-2 hole.
From that point, it was all Jayhawks.
JCC was able to even the score at 6-6 with three minutes remaining in the 3rd period. The tying goal came from Garret Greaves, getting an assist from Kellogg. Before Greaves was able to net the equalizer, Jamestown saw Christian Greaves, Cooper Shelters, and Coleson Barber light the lamp for the tie with just 180 seconds to play.
The game stayed knotted up until 47 seconds left; that's when Kellogg was able to get one-on-one with the Griffs' goalie, and he didn't miss the slap shot from out front. The crowd at Northwest Arena exploded as they saw a comeback for the ages completed by the Jayhawks.
This win moves JCC to 2-0 on the year.
Jamestown faces its first road test on Friday, October 3rd, at 7:00 PM when they visit Penn State Behrend.
The next Jayhawks home game is set for Saturday, October 4th, at 7:00 PM when SUNY Geneseo visits Northwest Arena.
