Jayhawks Sweep Meet at Fredonia State, Milewski Sets Trio of Records

FREDONIA, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's and women's swimming and diving teams left regional action for a meet at Fredonia State University on Tuesday, and the winning way followed the Jayhawks down Route 60. JCC won both the men's and women's competitions against the Blue Devils and Genesee Community College.

The men, who scored 114 points to Fredonia's 51 and Genesee's 44, were led by Cameron Milewski, who set three diving records during the event. The sophomore's scores of 222.15 in the 3-meter 6-dive, 254.78 in the 1-meter 6-dive, and 11 dive 3-meter were his record-setting events. Milewski also won the 50 free by nearly half of a second and was part of the relay team with Zach Johnson, Daniel Peterson, and Diego Villarroel, who won the 200 free relay by three seconds.

Aside from being on the winning relay team, Johnson also won the 100 breaststroke, finished second to Peterson in the 100 free, and joined the distance swimmers for a second in the 1000 free.

Peterson's win in the 100 free was a small part of his performance. The freshman took home first in the 200 free and second in the 500 free.

Villarroel captured the 500 free over Peterson and also finished second in the 100 butterfly.

Christian Merrill rounded out the guy's events with a first in the 200 individual medley, topping second by over two seconds. He also brought home second place in the 100 backstroke.

On the ladies' side, South African Roxanne Lothian continues to shine. The freshman snatched first in the 100 backstroke, ahead of teammate Willow Chase. She then won the 1000 free, again edging out Chase, and the 100 breaststroke. Finally, she was part of the 200 free relay team with Desiree Putt, Cassie Lyon, and Chase, which took first by four seconds.

Putt also won the 100 free, where Lyon was third, and the 50 free as well.

Addison Lawson touched first in the 200 individual medley, and Putt captured third. Lawson also finished third in the 100 breast and second in the 500 free.

Rounding out the ladies was a pair of individual wins for Lyon, earning the top spot in both the 500 free and 200 free, just ahead of fellow Jayhawk Sophia Gervasio.

The meet at Fredonia State was the start of a busy 30 hours for JCC; they return to the waters of Erie Community College on Wednesday at 5:00 PM to wrap up the WNYAC portion of the season. A win at ECC secures the conference championship for Jamestown.
