JCC Swimming and Diving Dominates Another WNYAC Meet

JAMESTOWN, NY - In a night that started with changing out the plates on the Jamestown Community College (JCC) swimming and diving record boards, it was the future of the program on full display with several freshmen putting on great performances for the Jayhawks, who swept their home conference meet over Erie Community College and Genesee Community College.

Starting with the ladies, Cassie Lyon won the 200 free, with fellow freshman Katrina DeGroff coming in second.

Sophomores ruled the 500 free; reigning Region 3 Swimmer of the Week Desiree Putt just outtouched teammate Emily Swan for a one-two finish.

Newcomer Roxanne Lothian earned a victory in the 400-yard individual medley with her time of 5:18:96.

Flipping to the butterfly, Willow Chase and Addison Lawson captured second and third for the Jayhawks.

The 100 free saw Chase grab another silver, and DeGroff earned a third. The pair was separated by two tenths of a second.

It was a podium sweep for the Jayhawks in the 100 backstroke. Putt edged out Lothian by less than a second, with Gervasio grabbing a third.

Jamestown was first and second in the 500 free; Lyon topped Swan for the quickest time by almost three seconds.

Putt and Lawson were back in the water for the 100 individual medley. The duo took second and fourth, respectively.

In the 100 breaststroke, Lothian was back on top, finishing over 13 seconds ahead of second place, teammate Katrina DeGroff.

Finishing up the ladies' swims was the 400 free relay. JCC secured the win in a time of 4:21:16, behind the group of Lyon, Gervasio, Chase, and Swan.

Checking in on the men, Daniel Peterson continues to shine, taking first in the 100 free by edging out teammate Cameron Milewski by just over a second. JCC's Diego Villarroel took fourth in the event.

Peterson also won the 100-yard individual medley by nearly two seconds; Christian Merrill earned fourth and Tayanda Sebalo fifth.

It was a one-two finish in the 50 free for the men, with Milewski grabbing the gold by almost four seconds ahead of Villarroel in second.

Sophomore Zach Johnson continues his fast start to 2025. The South African won the 400 individual medley by over four seconds. He also took second in the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

In the distance swims, it was Lawson taking second in the 1,000 free while Sophia Gervasio brought home third. Samuel Hersom and Noah Miles earned third and fourth, respectively, in the men's event.

Lastly, in the diving well, Milewski also shined, taking first with a score of 238.27, just off his program record of 247.20.

JCC is now 4-0 on both the men's and women's WNYAC meets after two conference swims.
