Three Jayhawks Record Career-Days in Win Over CCBC Catonsville

BALTIMORE, Md. - Playing in their first of back-to-back road games, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team defeated CCBC Catonsville 73-60, while three players recorded double-doubles on the night.

 

The Jayhawks (3-3) were led by guard Destiny Evans (Peoria, IL/Lorain HS) with 27 points and 16 rebounds (6 offense, 10 defense) while forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds (4 offense, 12 defense). Guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds (1 offense, 9 defense). Harden also added six dimes with Hicks rejecting six shot attempts. Gurad Zalika Evans (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) had a good night off the bench, grabbing 11 rebounds (4 offense, 7 defense).

 

After holding a two-possession lead after the first frame of action, JCC continued to find their offense early in the second. With four straight baskets from Evans and another by Hicks, the Jayhawks took a 27-17 lead with four minutes until the break. The Cardinals did cut the lead to two possessions late in the frame but the Jayhawks held strong going into halftime, up 35-27.

 

In the third quarter, the Jayhawks saw their biggest difference in point differential, outsourcing Catonsville 24-14.

 

JCC saw their biggest advantage late in the fourth quarter with Harden making the frontend of her free throw, making it a 71-52 game with just over two minutes left in regulation.

 

The Jayhawks went 29-for-67 (43.3 percent) from the field while the Cardinals went 21-for-74 (28.4 percent) from the floor. JCC dominated the boards, grabbing 67 rebounds to Catonsville's 34 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they face No. 12 CCBC Essex tomorrow, November 20th, at noon. The game will be played at CCBC Dundalk. No spectators will be permitted.
