Hicks Nets 21 in Loss to CCBC Essex

BALTIMORE, Md. - Looking to upset the 12th-ranked team in the nation, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball fell to CCBC Essex, 98-63.

 

The Jayhawks (3-5) were led by forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) with 21 points and 17 rebounds (3 offense, 14 defense) with Guard Destiny Evans (Peoria, IL/Lorain HS) adding 16 points and 13 rebounds (4 offense, 9 defense). Guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) added 11 points including 9-for-9 (100.0 percent) from the charity stripe.

 

After trailing by two possessions at the end of the first frame, JCC kept battling. The Knights got their biggest lead of the first half, up 30-21 at the 5:18 mark. The Jayhawks battled to take a 31-30 lead, going on an eight-point run behind four points from Evans.

 

The Jayhawks kept the momentum going, getting a 35-31 lead behind back-to-back buckets from Hicks. The Knights made a three-pointer to make it 35-34 before Evans helped the Jayhawks take a 38-34 lead into the break with another pair of baskets.

 

Essex came into the second half, going on an 18-2 run, making it 52-40 halfway through the third frame. The Knights continued to find their offense in the quarter, taking a 68-49 lead with one frame to go in regulation.

 

The Jayhawks went 23-for-57 (40.4 percent) from the floor while the Knights went 39-for-116 (33.6 percent) from the field. Essex held the slight edge in the rebound battle, grabbing 55 to JCC's 53.

 

The Jayhawks will take  a brief hiatus, playing their next game at Lorain County Community College on Tuesday, November 30th, with a 5 p.m. tip.
