Jayhawks Feast on the Commodores

ELYRIA, Ohio - Looking to get back in the win column after an extended break, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team won in convincing fashion over Lorain County Community College, 95-55 Tuesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks' (4-4) offense was firing on all cylinders as all five starters were in double figure. To lead the pack, forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds (2 offense, 11 defense) while guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) scored a game-high 22 points. Guards Destiny Evans (Peoria, Il/Lorain HS) scored 21 points with guard Kymi Nance (Dunkik, NY/Dunkirk HS) dropping 20 points. To round out the scoring, guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) added 16 points.

 

At the 3:50 mark in the first quarter with JCC holding a 16-12 advantage, the offense was poetry in motion, going on a 10-0 to push it to a 26-12 game with over a minute left in the frame. Four Jayhawks helped the run with Hick making a pair of layups.

 

With a 28-15 lead entering the second quarter, JCC continued to assert their dominance in the second quarter, seeing their lead balloon to 22 points, taking a 49-27 lead into the break.

 

The Jayhawks went 36-for-64 (56.3 percent) from the floor and 6-for-14 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Commodores went 21-for-68 (30.9 percent) from the field and 2-for-12 (16.7 percent) from the three-point line.

 

JCC took advantage of their opportunities in the paint, scoring 58 points to Lorain County's 28 points. The Jayhawks also had the edge in points off turnovers, scoring 40 points to the Commodore's 24 points.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they host Butler County Community College tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m.
