Hicks Has Career Night as Jayhawks Down the Pioneers

JAMESTOWN - Continuing to fire on all cylinders, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruised past Butler County Community College Wednesday evening, 93-59.

 

To lead the Jayhawks (5-4), forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) scored a season-high 24 points while grabbing a career-high 30 rebounds (17 offense, 13 defense) while guard Destiny Evans (Peoria, IL/Lorain HS) also finished with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds (6 offense, 6 defense). Guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) also scored 18 points with guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) chipped in with 17 points and dished out nine assists.

 

JCC found themselves down early in the game as the Pioneers jumped out to a quick 9-0 within the first four minutes of the game. Hicks stopped the run, getting the layup with Nance and Harden getting buckets to follow to make it 9-6.

 

The Jayhawks were able to take the lead late in the frame as guard Zalika Stevens (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) converted her and-one opportunity to go up 16-15. JCC closed out the quarter on an 11-0 run to lead 22-15 after one quarter of action.

 

JCC carried their run over into the second quarter, scoring seven straight to go up 29-15. BC3 battled back, closing it to a 31-26 game with under six minutes until half. The Jayhawks were able to regroup down the stretch before intermission, leading 45-32.

 

The Jayhawks were really able to open their lead up in the third quarter, outsourcing the Pioneers 29-13 in the frame.

 

JCC went 44-for-99 (44.4 percent) from the field with BC3 going 18-for-54 (33.3 percent) from the floor. BC3 found success from beyond the arc, shooting 7-for-17 (41.2 percent). The Jayhawks lived in the paint, outscoring the Pioneers 80-18.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Friday, December 3rd, as they travel to Genesee Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
