Jayhawks Fall to Villa Maria

BUFFALO - Going up against the No. 6 team in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to Villa Maria College Thursday afternoon, 73-44.

 

The Jayhawks (7-6) were led offensively by guard Destiny Evans (Peoria, IL/Lorain HS) with 18 points while Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) adding 12 points on the night. Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) had another great game on the glass, grabbing 14 rebounds (1 offense, 13 defense).

 

The Vikings showed their experience throughout the first quarter of action as they got out to a 20-8 lead after one. JCC did recover in the second quarter, outscoring Villa Maria 15-12.

 

Facing a 15-point deficit with four minutes until halftime, the Jayhawks slowly began to cut the lead. Going on an 8-0 run, JCC got the game to 30-23 with a pair of baskets coming from Beehler and Evans during the run. The Vikings scored once more to take a 32-23 lead into the break.

 

The Vikings came out of the break and mirrored their performance from the first quarter of action, outscoring JCC 28-9 to help put the game out of reach.

 

The Jayhawks went 19-for-55 (34.5 percent) from the floor with the Vikings going 30-for-70 (42.9 percent) from the field. JCC held the rebounds advantage, grabbing 41 to Villa Maria's 39 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be back at it this Saturday, December 10th, as they travel to take on Jefferson Community College at 2:00 p.m. Spectators are limited to Jefferson Community College students for the game.
