Multiple Jayhawks Shine in Dominant Win Over Lorain County

JAMESTOWN - Looking to get to .500 as the fall semester is coming to a close, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruises past Lorain County Community College Thursday evening, 74-45.

 

The Jayhawks (8-8) had a strong showing from guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) who finished the game with a season-high 23 points. Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) added 12 points in the effort.

 

D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) had a solid all-around game, finishing with nine points, 10 rebounds (1 offense, 9 defense), and eight assists. Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) added another double-double on the season, scoring 10 points while grabbing 10 boards. Sydney Burke (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) had a solid game in her season debut, scoring nine points while grabbing seven rebounds (3 offense, 4 defense).

 

With the teams deadlocked at 14-14 after one quarter of action, it was much of the same for a majority of the second quarter. JCC got out to a 28-22 lead with 2:41 left until the break with a bucer from Nance off the feed from Burke. The Commodores answered but a three-pointer from Beehler pushed it to a seven-point game with over a minute to go. Nance capped off the half with a late layup to put JCC up 33-24 at the break.

 

The Jayhawks came out of the break on fire, going on an 8-0 run with contributions from four players. Continuing to apply the pressure to Lorain County, JCC found their biggest lead of the game at the time to 20 points after a three-pointer from Nance and a fastbreak layup from Lauren Alfa (Mayville, NY/Chautauqua Lake) to make it 49-29 with a minute to go in the third frame.

 

JCC had a strong second half of action, outscoring the Commodores 41-21 to put the game out of reach.

 

The Jayhawks went 34-for-74 (45.9 percent) from the field while the Commodores went 19-for-63 (30.2 percent) from the floor. JCC shared the sugar on offense, finishing with 22 assists with Lorain County finishing with nine assists. The Jayhawks also inserted their dominance in the paint, outsourcing the Commodores 52-22.

 

The Jayhawks will wrap up the 2021 portion of the season with a showdown against Lakeland Community College on Saturday, December 18th, at 1 p.m.
