JAMESTOWN - Wrapping up the 2021 portion of the basketball season a game above .500, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team grinded out a 68-63 win over Lakeland Community College Saturday afternoon.

The Jayhawks (9-8) got another outstanding performance from guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) who finished with a season-high 26 points. Forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) continues to be a constant, scoring 12 points while grabbing 15 boards (2 offense, 13 defense).

JCC also saw a strong game from Guard Zalika Stevens (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/THornlea Secondary School) had a stellar game at both ends of the court, scoring 11 points, grabbing nine rebounds (3 offense, 6 defense), and coming away with five steals. D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) also had a hand in the win, scoring 10 points while dishing out six assists.

In a defensive battle in the first half, the Jayhawks held a 26-24 advantage after a half of play. Making the right halftime adjustments, JCC opened the third quarter on a 8-2 run fueled by Harden with a pair of baskets to make it 34-26.

The Lakers kept battling back to keep the game close. Lakeland did score eight unanswered to take their first lead of the second half at the 3:15 mark, going up 38-37. Both teams kept battling back-and-forth with JCC taking a slim 45-44 lead into the final frame of regulation.

With neither team gaining more than a one-possession advantage, it wasn't until 2:43 remaining before the Jayhawks scored eight unanswered to go up 64-58 thanks in part to Harden going four-for-four at the free throw line during the stretch.

Lakeland did cut it to a one-possession game but a pair of free throws from Nance helped put the game on ice.

The Jayhawks went 23-for-55 (41.8 percent) from the field with the Lakers going 27-for-67 (40.3 percent) from the floor. JCC held the advantage on the boards, grabbing 46 rebounds to Lakeland's 32 rebounds.

The Jayhawks will be off for winter break and will be back in action on Friday, January 14th, as they travel to Butler County Community College for a 5 p.m. start.
