Jayhawks Knock-Off The Tribunes

ROCHESTER - Heading east for Region 3 action, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team grinded out a 66-56 win against Monroe Community College Saturday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (10-10, 1-1 Region 3) were led by forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) with her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 22 points while grabbing 14 rebounds (5 offense, 9 defense) while guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) added 14 points off the bench. Guard Sydney Burk (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern) added 10 points in the effort.

 

After a quarter of action, the Tribunes held a 16-10 lead and continued to build upon the lead, scoring the first five points in the second frame. JCC halted the run with baskets from Harden and Hicks to make it 21-14 with 7:40 left until the half.

 

Jordan Loewke helped push MCC's lead to 13 in the second quarter with a made layup and knocking down a pair of free throws. The Jayhawks cut the deficit to nine points going into the break, 36-27.

 

After making some halftime adjustments, the Jayhawks went on a 20-11 run to tie the game at 47-47 with 1:42 left in the third quarter. In the frame, the Jayhawks outscored the Tribunes 23-12.

 

Carrying the momentum over into the fourth quarter, the Jayhawks scored eight unanswered to go up 58-48 within the first two minutes. On the run Hicks scored six of the points. JCC tightened up on the defensive end, surrendering only eight points in the quarter.

 

JCC went 28-for-58 (48.3 percent) from the floor while MCC went 19-for-51 (37.3 percent) from the field. The Jayhawks owned the paint, scoring 44 points to the Tribunes' 20 points.

 

The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as they host Villa Maria College on Monday, January 31st, with a 5:30 p.m. tip.
