Jayhawks Drop Home Contest To The Vikings

JAMESTOWN - Back in action Monday night, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to Villa Maria College, 64-57.

 

The Jayhawks (10-11) were led by forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) who had 13 points to go along with 26 rebounds (12 offense, 14 defense). Her 26 rebounds put her over 500 career rebounds in 32 games of action.

 

Guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) led the team in scoring, dropping 20 points while guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) added 11 points. Harden also grabbed eight rebounds (3 offense, 5 defense) on the night.

 

JCC jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead in the first six minutes of action with four Jayhawks getting in on the action. The Jayhawks kept up their stifling defense as they took a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.

 

In the second quarter, the script was flipped as the Vikings outscored the Jayhawks 15-9. Villa Maria started the frame on an 8-4 run to cut the deficit to one with 6:25 left until the break. JCC pushed the lead back to six with a three-pointer from Nance to make it 21-15. The Vikings fought back, scoring seven of the last nine points of the quarter to make it 23-22 in favor of the Jayhawks.

 

Each team went tic-for-tac in the third to make it 41-39 with one quarter remaining. They battled continued in the fourth quarter but the Vikings used an 8-0 run to help pull away.

 

The Jayhawks went 22-for-73 (30.1 percent) from the field while the Vikings went 23-for-62 (37.1 percent) from the floor. JCC held a large margin in rebounds, grabbing 59 to Villa Maria's 39 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will be off until this Saturday, February 5th, as they host Niagara County Community College with tip at 1 p.m.
