Three Jayhawks Get Double-Doubles In Win Over The Tribunes

JAMESTOWN - Getting back in the win column, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team took care of Monroe Community College Wednesday, coming away with an 80-45 victory.

 

The Jayhawks (11-12, 2-2 Region 3) had three players record double-doubles on the night with forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) leading the way with 23 points and 26 rebounds (10 offense, 16 defense) while guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) finished with 20 points and 10 board (3 offense, 7 defense). Guard Zalika Stevens (Ajax, Onatario, Canada/Thornlea Secondary School) added 11 points while grabbing 12 rebounds (6 offense, 6 defense). Guard D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) had a solid all-around game, scoring 19 points, dishing out seven assists, and coming away with six steals.

 

The teams were evenly matched after a quarter of action with the Tribunes on top 11-10. After a few adjustments going into the second quarter, JCC started to find their offense.

 

The stalemate carried over to the second quarter with temas trading baskets. It was at the 4:56 mark of the second frame when the Jayhawks grabbed the lead for good and never looked back as guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) found guard Sydney Burk (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) for a three-pointer to go up 19-18. The made basket sparked a 17-3 run as the teams went into halftime.

 

The Jayhawks continued to fire on all cylinders, opening the second half by scoring 17 unanswered points. In the third quarter, JCC outscored MCC 24-9 to help salt the game away.

 

The Jayhawks went 33-for-86 (38.4 percent) from the floor while the Tribunes went 16-for-62 (25.8 percent) from the field. JCC cleanup the glass well, grabbing 69 rebounds to MCC's 41 rebounds. The Jayhawks also inserted their dominance in the paint, scoring 60 to the Tribunes' 28 points.

 

The Jayhawks will be off until next Wednesday, February 16th, as they travel to No. 20 Niagara County Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
