JAMESTOWN – Heading into the postseason, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team will be the second seed in the NJCAA Region 3 Women's Basketball Championship, taking on the third-seeded Monroe Community College at Niagara County Community College.

"It's an exciting time to be a Jayhawk," said first year head coach Dave Turnbull. "The path is laid out in front of us to get to the national tournament. We have to win a game this weekend and again next weekend. I believe in this team and I believe that we can do it."

The Jayhawks (12-13, 3-3 Region 3) have taken care of business in terms of the Tribunes, holding a 3-0 regular season record against them. In three games, JCC has on average a 25-point margin of victory and most recently coming off a 75-45 win over MCC last Saturday.

"What we have done in the regular season doesn't matter in the postseason," Turnbull said. "Each game the goal is to go 1-0. If we do that, we'll be right where we want to be."

JCC is led by second-year forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) who is averaging 15.5 rebounds per game which is first in the country to go along with 2.8 blocks per game which is tied for fourth in the nation. In region action, Hicks has scored 17.5 points per game to provide a bulk of the offense.

Guards Kymi Nance (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) and D'Auzhanay Harden (Erie, PA/Erie HS) have also provided a good source of offense for the Jayhawks, both scoring roughly 13 points each out in region action.

For the Tribunes, Isabella DeRubeis has provided much of the offense, scoring 15.2 points per game. Three players for MCC average eight or more points in region action as well. On the glass for MCC, Natalina Rainford and Jordan Loewke have grabbed eight boards per game in the region.

In six region games, the Jayhawks have averaged just under 65 points per game on 39 percent shooting from the field. On the glass, JCC has grabbed just under 47 rebounds per game.

For the Tribunes, they are scoring 48 points per game while shooting just under 35 percent from the field. On the glass, MCC is grabbing just over 36 rebounds per region game.

Action will begin this Saturday, February 26th, at 12 p.m. Prior to the game, members of the NJCAA Region 3 All-Region Teams will be announced along with Most Outstanding Player and Coach.

The winner of the semifinal game will play against the one seed Niagara County, who are ranked 20th nationally, in the NJCAA Region 3 Women's Basketball Championship game on Sunday.
