Jayhawks Ride Fast Start to Home Opening Win

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team moved to 2-0 early in the 2025-26 season, with a home opening win 71-68 over Lakeland Community College.

JCC started the game on fire, opening up a 20-7 lead capped by a pair of points from freshman Tru Billie, who led the Jayhawks in scoring with 24.

Lakeland would close the game to single digits early in the second quarter before fellow freshman Lailah McGary netted a layup to push the advantage to 29-19.

The Lakers kept cutting into Jamestown's edge. The lead was down to just two before sophomore Jani Washington converted an and-one opportunity to push the score to 35-27.

Jamestown would take a six-point lead to the halftime break, sitting at 46-40.

Early in the second half it was all Lakeland, as the Lakers took their first lead at 50-49. Kennegy Gadsen did most of the damage as she poured in a game-high 27.

Just before the end of the third quarter, JCC snatched the lead back on a jumper from Billie to make it 58-57 heading to the final frame.

It was back-and-forth throughout the last 10 minutes. Sophomore Kendra Altadonna's rebound and putback helped see JCC go up 65-62. The Erie native finished with 21.

Lakeland made one last run to get the score to 70-68, but a late free throw from Jerica Barnard was the final point of the game for the 71-68 scoreboard.

Jamestown now sits at 2-0, with both games coming out of conference.

Next up for the ladies in the Murph Shapiro Classic hosted by Monroe Community College this weekend, they return home after that on Tuesday, November 11th, to host Bryant and Stratton of Buffalo at 6:00 PM.
