Strong Second Half Sparks JCC Ladies to Region 3 Win

JAMESTOWN, NY - The old adage that it's not how you start but how you finish couldn't have been truer for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team in their 84-49 win over Corning Community College Friday night.

Jamestown was sluggish out of the gate, trailing Corning 11-6 with four minutes to play in the first quarter. That's when freshman Mila Espinoza entered the game and provided a spark for JCC, scoring four of the last five points of the opening quarter for JCC to even the game at 11-11. Espinoza finished the game with 11 points off the bench.

The Jayhawks still trailed into the second, needing everything from Ashlynn Dalcamp; her layup at the five-minute mark put JCC up 18-17. The Fredonia product scored all eight of her points in those first 20 minutes. Jamestown went to the break with a 29-23 lead.

The second half was a different story for Jamestown. JCC would win the final 20 minutes 55-26, with the lead hitting 20 points on a transition bucket from Lailah McGary for two of her eight on the night.

It was freshman Tru Billie that led the Jayhawks in scoring with 13. McGary also added 10 assists and eight steals in the win.

The victory moves Jamestown to 6-1 on the year, 1-0 in league play.

Jamestown gets a few days off before returning to the court on Saturday, November 22nd, at 1:00 PM against Villa Maria College as part of the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by SUNY Niagara.
