Lock Down Defense Late Guides JCC Ladies to 73-70 Victory

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team relied heavily on defense to earn win number ten on the season, 73-70 over Garrett College on Wednesday afternoon.

JCC forced 19 turnovers by the Lakers, especially the nine in the third quarter, where Jamestown won those ten minutes 27-16.

It was a 17-17 game to start the second quarter before Garrett opened on a 10-0 run.

Jayhawk sophomore Jani Washington was key to stopping the bleeding and getting JCC going. The Rochester native scored eight straight at one point for Jamestown, with the ladies fighting back to a 32-31 lead.

Despite that, JCC would trail by three at the half, down 35-32.

The third quarter was all Jamestown, winning that frame 27-16.

JCC was led by Mila Espinoza, who scored 13 of her team-high 22 in the third alone. The freshman didn't do it by herself; sophomore Ashlynn Delcamp dropped seven in the quarter for part of her 18 on the day.

Jamestown left the third with an eight-point lead.

Garrett tried to make a run in the fourth, taking the lead at 64-63, but Delcamp stayed dominant. The Fredonia product had a late and-one to put JCC on top for good.

The three-point win moves Jamestown to 10-6 on the season.

Jamestown is back on the home court on Friday, January 16th, when they host Lorain County Community College at 7:00 PM.
