Jayhawk Ladies Begin Conference Action with Road Win

ROCHESTER, NY - It was a great start to conference play for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team, who hit the road for Monroe Community College and came home with a 77-72 victory.

Jamestown trailed 64-63 with three minutes left in the game but outscored the Tribunes 14-8 to close the game with the win.

The most glaring stat in favor of JCC was the free throw shooting. Jamestown went on to shoot 27-30 from the line, an eye-popping 90% shooting.

The Jayhawks also forced 18 turnovers in en route to starting league action 1-0.

Mila Espinoza led the way in the box score, dropping 26 points, with nine rebounds and nine assists. Fellow freshmen Lailah McGary and Jaemie Jensen scored 12 points, while McGary added 11 rebounds. Sophomore Jani Washington poured in 17 points to round out the leading scorers.

The win lifts the ladies to 13-6 on the year, 1-0 on conference play.

JCC aims for a 2-0 start in league games on Wednesday, January 28th, when they host SUNY Niagara at 5:30 PM in another conference showdown.
