Jayhawk Ladies Suffer First League Loss of the Season

JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a case of whatever could go wrong did go wrong for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team in Wednesday night's home loss to SUNY Niagara.

The ladies fell to the Thunderwolves 85-61, but the story for Jamestown was unfortunate, self-created errors. JCC finished the game with 20 turnovers, only ten of which were created by their opponent. Jamestown also shot just 5-22 from three-point range, their third-worst outing of the season.

Jamestown kept it close early, trailing 8-7 afer a jumper from freshman Mila Espinoza, who finished the game with six points and ten rebounds.

The second quarter is where things fell apart, with JCC droping that frame 27-14. That put the Jayhawks in a 42-23 hole going to the break.

Jamestown made a run in the third, thanks in large part to sophomores Jani Washington and Ashlynn Delcamp. The duo scored 17 straight points to close the quarter for JCC and brought the home team to within 15 points to start the fourth. Washington led JCC with 18 points, while Delcamp finished with ten.

It wasn't enough as Niagara clamped down in the final ten minutes to win 85-61.

The loss bumps Jamestown down to 13-7 on the year, and 1-1 in conference action.

JCC now has a few days off before they head to SUNY Niagara for a game on Saturday, February 7th, at 1:30 PM.
