ROCHESTER - In their opening series games against Genesee Community College, the Jamestown Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games played at Monroe Community College.
Game 1: Genesee Community College 13 - Jamestown Community College 3
In the first game of the day, the Jayhawks (3-6, 2-2 Region 3 West) got the scoring going with first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) got his first home run of the season to go up 1-0 in the second inning. The Cougars answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
JCC got the lead back the following inning, with shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) hitting an RBI-triple, scoring center fielder Ayden Reagle (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove HS) all the way from first base. Third baseman Zach Zulawski (Melbourne, FL/Viera HS) was able to score Johnson with an RBI-groundout to make it 3-2 in favor of the Jayhawks.
GCC was able to open the game up in the bottom of the third inning, scoring 11 unanswered runs.
Pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) earned his first loss on the mound, going three and one-third innings, giving up 10 runs while striking out five batters. Walt Rybczynski (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis HS) went the rest of the way, surrendering one hit and three runs.
Game 2: Genesee Community College 8 - Jamestown Community College 1
In the second game of the double header, Gonzalez and Reagle were the only Jayhawks to figure out the Cougar pitching, each picking up a pair of hits.
GCC was able to jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings but Gonzalez mashed his second homer of the day to cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning.
The Cougars added one more run in the bottom of the fourth to close the game out.
Pitcher Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) earned the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs and striking out three batters in two innings of action. Alex Kemery (Youngsville, PA/Youngsville HS) saw three innings of action, fanning two hits and striking out one. Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) went the rest of the way, striking out two batters.
The Jayhawks will look to get back on track this Saturday, April 2nd, as they host the Cougars for two games. Games will be played at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field on the campus of St. Bonaventure University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
