JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a tale of two games for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) baseball team as they fell to Genesee Community College (GCC) 2-0 in game one and 26-20 in game two of their doubleheader on Sunday at Diethrick Park.
Game one was a pitching duel between JCC's Santino Musone and GCC's Caden Richards. Neither pitcher allowed an earned run, but a couple of Jamestown mistakes led to a pair of runs by the Cougars, leading to the 2-0 defeat for the Jayhawks.
Game two was a completely different animal, with 46 total runs being scored on 43 hits. After falling behind 2-0 in the 1st, JCC answered in the bottom with an RBI from Emmanuel Rosario, followed by a pair of runs knocked in from Seth Ranieri for a 3-2 home team edge. GCC would score a pair in the top of the 2nd to once again lead, but the Jayhawks had an answer in the bottom of the frame as Jackson Shannon, Luke Larson, and Bryce Bedrosian all drove in runs for a 7-4 lead. It was deja vu in the 3rd, as GCC scored another three runs before Jamestown countered with three runs off the bat of Santino Musone, who sent a three-run bomb to left for a 10-7 lead. The homer for Musone made him the all-time JCC leader in home runs for a career (11) and in a season (9). The Jayhawks appeared to break this game open in the 4th when they plated six runs off of the sticks of Musone, Larson, Bedrosian, and Ranieri to claim a 16-9 lead. Unfortunately for the Jayhawks, Genesee put up 11 runs in the top of the 5th to grab a 20-16 lead. JCC didn't quit, scoring three in the 5th from a three-run homer by Bedroadian, then in the 6th they tied the game at 20-20 on a sacrifice fly, but it was GCC who went home happy after scoring six runs in the 8th to claim the 26-20 win.
Jamestown is back on the homefield in less than 48 hours when they finish the season by hosting Onondaga Community College.
