Allen nets 28 points in loss to Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Isaac Allen dropped 28 points as the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to Columbus State, 109-85 Friday evening.


The Jayhawks (5-5) were led offensively by Allen with 28 points with 11 of his points coming from the free throw line. Jordan Thomas added 19 points with Carl Jackson chipping in with 12 points off the bench. Jake Hougan and Thomas had a team-high eight rebounds apiece.


The Cougars jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead in the early minutes of the contest before Allen halted the run with his first basket of the game. Jamestown continued to cut into the deficit with a layup form Hougan to make it 9-4. Columbus State got back on a role, scoring eight unanswered to make it 17-4. Thomas was able to stop the run, knocking down a jumper to make it 17-6.


At the halfway point in the first half, Jamestown cut the deficit to single digits with a three-pointer from Jackson, a pair of made free throws from Allen and an and-one opportunity, making it 26-18. The Cougars caught fire in the remaining ten minutes of the half, taking a 52-37 lead into intermission.


Jamestown cut the deficit to as little as 10 points in the early going on the second half with two made free throws from Thomas, making it 64-54 with under 15 minutes left in regulation. Columbus State extend their lead back to 11 with a layup from Chaz Dixon but Donathan Daniels answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to nine. The Cougars were able to take the game back over and maintain a sizable lead through the remainder of the game.


Columbus State shot 52.4 percent (44-for-84) from the floor while shooting 36.4 percent (8-for-22) from beyond the arc. Jamestown shot 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from the floor and 47.4 percent (9-for-) from beyond the arc. The Cougars held the advantage on the boards, grabbing 49 to JCC's 34 rebounds.


The Jayhawks will have a quick turnaround as the take on Sinclair Community College tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
