Strong Finish Propels JCC to Win in Home Opener

JAMESTOWN, NY - It's not how you start, but how you finish, and the Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team closed strong to open their home slate with a 70-55 win over Lakeland Community College.

JCC opened the game shooting nothing but threes, with Gabriel Collins hitting a pair for six on his 15, and Federico Foddai knocking down one to begin on a 9-4 run.

Lakeland quickly closed the gap, taking an 18-17 lead midway through the first half.

The Jayhawks reclaimed the advantage when Collins grabbed a board and made the putback for a 24-23 edge.

Jamestown and Lakeland kept it close going to the break, with the Jayhawks holding a 32-30 win.

Lakeland came out of the break looking like they were taking control. A pair of layups from Micah Blackmon pushed the Lakers to a 37-32 lead.

It was sophomore captain Marcus Wynter who stopped the bleeding with a triple from the logo to bring JCC back within 37-35. He led all scorers with 17 on the night.

Jamestown would reclaim the lead on a three from Justin Suarez to go up 44-42.

That sent the Jayhawk crowd into a frenzy that they never came down from.

The lead grew back to double digits when Foddai splashed a corner three to make it 62-51, and Jayhawk Nation let him and his teammates know that was the ball game with three minutes to play.

JCC never looked back from there as they cruised in the final minutes to the 15-point win.

Jamestown now sits at 2-0 on the young season.

Next up for the men in the Murph Shapiro Classic hosted by Monroe Community College this weekend, they don't return until Friday, November 14th, to host Corning Community College at 7:30 PM.
