Jayhawks Get Battle Tested in Tough Weekend Series at SUNY Niagara Classic

SANBORN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team knew it was in for a tough test at the Thunderwolves Thanksgiving Classic hosted by SUNY Niagara, but taking on the #16 team in the country on Saturday was just the beginning of a difficult pair of games.

JCC dropped their matchup against #16 Oakland Community College on Saturday, 106-86. Jamestown fought hard in the first half, trailing by seven at 49-42 going to the break, but OCC had too much firepower for the Jayhawks as they eventually pulled away for the 20-point victory.

Jamestown was led by Marcus Wynter and Gabriel Collins, who each scored 21 in defeat. Freshmen Jodan Wright (17) and Pietro Magni (16) were the other two Jayhawks to hit double-digit scoring.

If Saturday's loss for JCC was frustrating, Sunday's can only be described as heartbreaking, as the Jayhawks fell 68-67 to Community College of Beaver County.

Jamestown took a 41-32 lead to the halftime break but lost the second 20 minutes 36-26 as the shooting went cold. The Jayhawks held a 67-66 lead with as little as six seconds remaining before CCBC ultimately pulled off the comeback win.

Marcus Wynter once again led Jamestown in scoring with 17 points. A trio of freshmen also hit the double-figure mark, with Justin Suarez and Aidan Penchion both netting 12, while Naeem Richardson added ten.

The losses move JCC to 5-3 on the season.

Jamestown is back in action on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 7:30 PM, when they visit Lakeland Community College.
