Jayhawks Push #21 Orange CCC to the Brink but Come Up Short

JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a step up in competition for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team as they hosted #21 Orange County Community College on Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks fought hard to the final buzzer but ultimately fell just short, 89-83.

The story of the game was the play of Orange's Anthony Pacciarelli, who scored a game-high 41, with seven of those coming early to put JCC in a 9-6 hole.

Deep shooting kept Jamestown in the contest; a three from Marcus Wynter brought the Jayhawks to within 18-15 with 13 minutes to play in the first half. The sophomore finished with 18 points.

Orange went on a 13-0 run after that before Jodan Wright's corner triple stopped the bleeding for Jamestown. The freshman finished with a team-high 19 points.

Jamestown would get within six at the three-minute mark of the half on a short jumper from Federico Foddai, who scored 15 on the day.

JCC would go to the breakdown by seven at 43-36.

The second half started a lot like the first, with Pacciarelli scoring the first five for Orange, and Jamestown was again down double-digits.

JCC's deficit quickly grew to 16 before sophomore Keyvone Craig scored four straight for the Jayhawks to bring it to a 12-point game.

The Jayhawks were down 15 with five minutes to play; that's when Jamestown made things interesting late.

A 7-0 run for JCC thanks to Craig and Foddai forced Orange to bang a timeout as their lead was cut to just eight.

Foddai kept playing hero with a four-point play at the 23-second mark, making it a four-point game.

Orange would knock down their last free throws to claim the six-point win.

The loss moves JCC to 10-6 on the season.

Jamestown has a few days off before they open conference play at Monroe Community College on Saturday, January 24th, at 3:00 PM.
