Overtime Thriller Doesn't Go the Way of the Jayhawk Men

JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a tale of two halves between Jamestown Community College (JCC) and SUNY Niagara on Wednesday night, and then the two teams played overtime where the Jayhawks lost a heartbreaker 113-110.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a quick ten-point lead, 21-11, off of a corner three from sophomore Marcus Wynter, who finished the night with 14 points.

Jamestown's lead swelled to as large as 22 points in the opening half when Keyvone Craing splashed home a triple of his own to make the score 50-28. The sophomore ended with a team-high 30 points, and the Jayhawks took a 50-36 advantage to half.

In the second half, Niagara slowly chipped away at the JCC lead, thanks in large part to Chioke Marshall, who finished with a game-high 50 points for the Thunderwolves as they took their first lead, 70-69.

Jamestown fell behind by five with two minutes to play before closing the second half on a 9-4 run to bring us to overtime.

The overtime period began well for the Jayhakws. Jodan Wright made four-straight free throws and Pietro Magni hit a clutch jumper to have JCC up 104-102 with two minute to play.

As the clock wound down, Craig buried a long-range three to see JCC take a 107-104 edge.

With five seconds on the clock, Craig made a free throw for a 110-109 Jamestown lead, but that's when the heartbreak happened.

The final buzzer sounded with what appeared to be a JCC victory, but a foul was called with just .4 second on the clock to send Jacob Humprey to the line for three free throws. He converted two of them and then made both on a technical foul for the final of 113-110.

Jamestown moves to 10-8 on the year after the loss, 0-2 in league.

The Jayhawks are back home on Wednesday, February 4th, at 6:00 PM as they welcome Erie Community College to the nest.
