Jayhawks Fight to the End, but Fall to Erie CC 83-73

JAMESTOWN, NY - It was a tale of two halves for the Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team, winning the second frame versus Erie Community College (ECC) 41-36, but the hole they dug early was too deep in the 83-73 loss.

JCC fell into a double-digit deficit less than seven minutes into the game as they trailed 20-10. Naeem Richardson stopped the Kats' run with a transition layup to draw the Jayhawks back within eight points.

That disadvantage would grow to as much as 15 later in the half, with Jamestown slowly cutting it back to ten several times during the opening twenty minutes.

A late surge to close the half by ECC made it a 47-32 game at the break.

Jamestown started the second half hot from the field. A layup from Keyvone Craig, followed by a bucket from Aidan Penchion, who scored ten, brought the Jayhawks to within seven at 49-42.

The teams traded buckets before a pair of three throws from Richardson, who finished with 14 points off the bench, brought the home squad's hole to just six points.

JCC kept the gas pedal down on offense; a triple from Federico Foddai saw the deficit cut to its smallest margin at five for the first time since the opening minutes. The sophomore from Italy scored 14 on the night.

Jamestown would get as close as four but couldn't close the gap any tighter, with ECC finishing off the 83-73 win.

The loss drops JCC to 10-9 on the year, 0-3 in conference play.

Jamestown hits the road on Saturday, February 7th, when they visit SUNY Niagara at 3:30 PM.
