JCC's Dan Towell Continues his Soccer Career at Salem University

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's Dan Towell (Dublin, Ireland / St. MacDaras) is continuing his academic and athletic careers at Salem University in West Virginia.

"I choose Salem because it offered me somewhere where I can play at one of the highest levels under a coach who wants me and a college that offered a good degree for my future goals," said Towell.

Dan's future plans are to be involved in athletics one way or another; at Salem, he will attack those goals by majoring in Sports and Recreation Management. Those career aspirations were aided during his two years as a student-athlete at JCC.

"JCC helped me massively after my first semester. I realized how much work it took to be successful academically. It was little things that together paint the big picture academically that Jamestown has taught me," added Towell.

On the pitch, Towell played in 36 games for the Jayhawks, starting in 22 of them. During his time in the green and gold, Dan amassed three points, but his true value came as a calming force in the center of the field.

"Going to JCC and JUCO level was probably one of the best decisions I made because it thought me so much in terms of how college sports works and what it takes to be successful," mentioned the sophomore.

Towell was part of the JCC team that came close to one of the biggest upsets in the nation, dropping a 4-3 game at nationally ranked Cayuga Community College in the Region 3 semifinals. That game, while difficult, is his favorite memory from Jamestown.

"Although it was a loss, it was my first time playing 90 minutes, and it's the game that I believe to be the best team performance in my two years here," said Towell.

Dan also plays golf for JCC and created some lasting bonds on the courses as well. "Qualifying for golf regionals during the last regular season round in Onondaga was pretty special, too," he went on to say.

Towell and the rest of the Salem Tigers open the 2025 season in September.
