JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College's (JCC) men's soccer team knew it was in for a battle as they welcomed Division One Mercyhurst University's JV squad to campus Wednesday evening, and despite a valiant effort, the lads fell 3-0 for their first loss of the year.
The Jayhawks kept it scoreless through the first 25 minutes before the Lakers were able to get on the board. Jamestown's deficit doubled pretty quickly as they allowed another goal at the 32nd minute.
Jamestown's best chance to score came early in the second period when Mfundo Mthethwa had a set piece come his way, but his header couldn't escape the grasp of the Mercyhurst netminder.
The 3-0 final could have been worse if not for a pristine save from Christoforos Theokli in the 87th minute to keep the score very respectable.
JCC returns to league action on Saturday at 2:30 PM, when they host North Country Community College on what marks the 75th anniversary of Jamestown Community College.
