Xavier Churnac, one of the college's Residence Directors, is entering his six season as head men's basketball coach at JCC after being named head coach in 2019. His teams’ have made the Region 3 DII Final Four in every year of his Jayhawks tenure and the championship game during the 2021 season. "X" as he's known on campus, grew up in East Harlem, N.Y., with his mother Judith, and sister Yoshan.

Churnac played two seasons at JCC from 2010-2012 where he served as a two-year captain. He earned First Team All-Region honors, leading the team in scoring, and led Region 3 in three-pointers made.

Churnac was the assistant head coach under the current Athletic Director, George Sission for a four-year span starting in 2015.

Since taking the helm, he has coached one NJCAA All-American and 16 Region III All-Conference players.

The program has been to the Region 3 Conference Final Four three times, including the championship game in 2016.

During his time at JCC, Churnac has served as a counselor for several prestigious college basketball camps, including Ohio State, Maryland, West Virginia, Syracuse, Michigan State, and Notre Dame in the offseason.

In High-School, Churnac attended the High School of Art & Design, where he served as captain of the basketball team from 2008-2010. He earned All-City honors as a senior and led the team in scoring and rebounding.

Churnac then went on to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on an athletic scholarship from 2012-2014 making it to the PSAC quaterfinals in the 2012-2013 season.

X also had stints with semi-pro basketball with the Erie Hurricanes of the PBL in 2015 and the Jamestown Jackals of the (at the time) NABL in 2017-2018, where he made the national championship.

He also assisted Bryan Hodgson, current head men's basketball coach at the University of South Flordia, as an assistant coach for the I-90 Elite AAU Basketball Team in the spring of 2011 and 2012.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Churnac moved to the U.S. when he was five-years-old.

Coach Churnac received a B.S. in Communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and an AAS in General Studies from Jamestown Community College in 2012.
