Jayhawks Go Five-Sets with the Tribunes

ROCHESTER – Needing five sets to determine a winner, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team was edged out by host Monroe Community College Wednesday evening, 3-2.

 

The Jayhawks (7-9, 2-2 WNYAC) and Tribunes were evenly matched throughout the night as neither team won by more than five points in the first four sets. JCC took sets one and three with a 25-20 victories while MCC took sets two and four with 25-21 and 25-20 victories. The Tribunes were able to take set five with a 15-9 win.

 

JCC was led offensively by outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) with 21 kills while Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) added 15 kills. Megan Cotter (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) chipped in with 10 kills in the offensive effort. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) finished with 45 assists while adding three service aces.

 

Johnson and Claire Pumford were strong on defense as well, each coming away with 23 digs. Cotter and McCarthy all played key roles on defense, each getting 15 digs.

 

The Jayhawks will hit the road this Saturday, October 16th, as they take on Tompkins Cortland Community College for a 1 p.m. start.
