JCC Host District X Wrestling Championship, Irvin and Smith Secure Wins

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College (JCC) was home to the District X Wrestling Championships on Saturday afternoon inside the JCC Physical Education Complex. The Jayhawks sent four wrestlers to the mats: Wyatt Bryman (149 pounds), Shayne Irvin (165 pounds), Brad Smith (184 pounds), and Jamison Caldwell (285 pounds).

Irvin was the first Jayhawk to secure a win, taking a 3-0 victory in his second matchup to earn a spot in the final against Joe Cicco. He dropped that bout 3-0 to the eventual 165-pound champ.

Smith also claimed victory in his second-round matchup but lost his opener and his final to Bobby Wagner. Wagner, like Cicco, went on to win the 184-pound division.

Their wins in round two earned Irvin and Smith third place in their respective weights.

Unfortunately, no Jayhawks earned a spot in nationals, ending their seasons in districts.
